Samsung could use LPDDR5X RAM in at least some Galaxy S27 models

Samsung's next high-end phones will be the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and the Galaxy S27 Ultra. While initial expectations pointed toward all these models using LPDDR6 RAM, it appears that at least some variants may instead use LPDDR5X memory chips.

Some Galaxy S27 series models could have LPDDR5X RAM

The Bell reports that Samsung is conducting quality tests on Micron's LPDDR5X memory built on its cutting-edge 1γ process. It is Micron's equivalent to the 1c DRAM generation from Samsung and SK Hynix. Micron submitted these samples to Samsung in the second half of 2025, sparking speculation that they would debut in the Galaxy S26 series, but they didn't.

Even if Micron's latest RAM passes Samsung's benchmarks, widespread adoption remains challenging due to higher pricing. Micron typically charges 20% to 30% higher for new-generation chips. This time, industry reports suggest the company could quote prices up to 50% higher than Samsung Device Solutions, which is Samsung's in-house memory division.

Closing ongoing negotiations before the Chuseok holiday could prove difficult given the wide price gap between Micron and Samsung's internal offerings.

While it remains unclear whether Samsung will rely on Micron's or in-house RAM, at least some Galaxy S27 models may feature LPDDR5X memory. Meanwhile, higher models like the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra still have a chance of using LPDDR6 memory paired with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor.

The Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27+ could use Samsung's next-generation flagship chip, the Exynos 2700. It is reportedly fabricated on Samsung Foundry's second-generation 2nm process node. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 (also known as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro) is made on TSMC's second-generation 2nm process.
